Christian Stein, PhD, CEO

 

Christian Stein is Chief Executive Officer of Ascenion. He previously headed the Patent and Licensing Agency for the German Human Genome Project (PLA) at the Fraunhofer Patent Centre in Munich for several years. He became director of the Department for Project Management in 2000, his responsibilities including the PLA and also Bayern Patent – the Patent Initiative for Bavarian Universities.
 
Christian Stein holds a PhD in molecular biology from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich and an MSc in Management of Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary and Westfield College in London. During his studies he was Assistant Editor-in-Chief for the international Journal of Antiviral Chemistry & Chemotherapy and was instrumental in founding Retroscreen Ltd, a thriving spin-off of the London Hospital Medical College. He is consultant for several EU programmes and regional and national expert groups and advises a number of life-science companies as consultant or as a board member. He is founder of several companies, also outside the biotechnology field.
Since June 2011 Christian Stein is Vize President of the Association of European Science & Technology Transfer Professionals ASTP.
