Ascenion is a 100% subsidiary of the Life-Science Foundation. The founding institutions are the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ), the German Primate Centre (DPZ), the The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research GmbH(HZI), the National Research Centre for Environment and Health (GSF), the Max Delbrück Centre for Molecular Medicine (MDC) and the German Institute of Human Nutrition (DIfE). These institutions are not associated with the foundation under company law. Yet, they are represented by their directors in the foundation’s council and can therefore participate in major decisions, e.g. on the use of funds.
