Ascenion is a 100% subsidiary of the Life-Science Foundation. The founding institutions are the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ), the German Primate Centre (DPZ), the The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research GmbH (HZI), the Helmholtz Zentrum München-German Research Centre for Environmental Health (HMGU), the Max Delbrück Centre for Molecular Medicine (MDC), the German Institute of Human Nutrition (DIfE), the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology - Hans Knoell Institute (HKI)and the Hannover Medical School (MHH) .
These institutions are not associated with the foundation under company law. Yet, they are represented by their directors in the foundation’s council and can therefore participate in major decisions, e.g. on the use of funds.
