Wrist Traction Device

Challenge
Proper diagnosis and treatment of wrist injuries is often challenging. Positioning and stable fixation of the lower arm is crucial for arthroscopical and/or osteosynthesis procedures. Current fixation devices suffer from a variety of disadvantages and related limitations, imposed upon the surgeon and surgical staff challenge procedures, can become frustrating, and may consume vital OR time.

Technology
The invention comprises a new fixation device for the upper limb which only fixates the fingers and thus enables free access to the elbow, forearm and wrist. It is an easy-to-use device which positions the upper and the lower arm perpendicular to each other, leaving the lower arm in an upright position. This allows for unlimited movement of the arm at the operation table (e.g. for X-ray imaging). Electrical exposure and contusion are excluded as there is no physical contact between arm and fixation device. The necessary stability of the fixation device is substantially increased through the use of two mounting elements instead of one. The design of the new device gives the surgeon the utmost working area and therefore unhindered access for flouroscopic imaging.
Commercial Opportunity
In-licensing or industrial cooperation for further development, CE-certification and commercialization of the technology.
Developmental Status
A prototype of the system has been successfully tested in numerous interventions at MHH.
