Award for new dementia therapy

A research team at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) has received the ‘Hugo Junkers Award for Research and Innovation from Saxony-Anhalt 2019’.

Prof. Dr Alexander Dityatev and his team won first place in the category ‘most innovative projects in basic research’ for their new approach to the treatment of dementia and psychological disorders. They have developed a therapeutic agent similar to the glycan PolySia that is produced naturally in the body and can inhibit neurodegenerative processes in the brain. The results of initial studies in model systems are encouraging.

Ascenion has been working closely with the team to patent and develop the approach.
