Working together for professional technology transfer: Ascenion joins TechnologieAllianz

TechnologieAllianz announced the acquisition of seven new members at the beginning of December, including Ascenion. The association for knowledge and technology transfer now boasts 40 member institutions representing more than 250 universities, research institutions and technology transfer companies all over Germany. Its members work together to improve the industry exposure of innovative academic projects, and to promote the development of technology transfer as a whole in Germany.

A particular concern of Ascenion is training and professional development. ‘Those responsible for technology transfer at our partner institutes have a very demanding job,’ says Dr Christian Stein, CEO of Ascenion and President of ASTP-Proton. ‘They have to understand the ins and outs of academia, industry and patent law, and must be able to mediate confidently and effectively between the different interests of the parties involved.’ The need for professional exchange and advanced training is therefore considerable. ‘We want to make the programmes that we have already introduced at European level available here in Germany,’ explains Dr Stein. It is Ascenion’s aim not only to increase professionalism in technology transfer, but also to raise the recognition and appreciation of those responsible for technology transfer in academic institutions.
