Animal Model C.129P2(B6)-Il10tm1Cgn/J

Abstract

Mice homozygous for the Il10tm1Cgn targeted mutation are viable and fertile when housed under specific pathogen-free (SPF) conditions. The phenotype of Il10-deficient mice is strongly influenced by the genetic background. At 3 months of age, Il10tm1Cgn homozygous mutant mice on a BALB/c background exhibit severe intestinal lesions, increased granulocyte counts, and elevated serum amyloid A levels. There is a 29% prevalence of colorectal adenocarcinoma. This mutant mouse strain represents a model that may be useful in studies related to inflammatory bowel disease.
