GO-Bio initial

GO-Bio initial is a funding programme from the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for early, innovative ideas in the life sciences.
It consists of two phases:

  1. The Exploratory Phase
For your initial application you submit a short description of your project (Deadline: February 15). The Federal Ministry of Education and Research selects the most promising applications, which will be invited to submit a detailed proposal (Deadline: May 15).

If your project receives funding, you have one year to work on the conceptualization of your project and the evaluation of various commercialization options.
By performing market- and intellectual property landscape analyses, you will be able to create a promising development strategy for your product or service.

  2. The Feasibility Phase
If your project continues to show promise during the exploratory phase, you may submit a proposal for the Feasibility Phase, which would provide two years of further funding (Deadline: May 15).
If you receive this funding, you have the opportunity to test your idea experimentally, update your intellectual property strategy and find collaboration partners.

Ideally after the GO-Bio initial funding, your initially raw idea will have developed into a commercially attractive and innovative project that could be eligible for follow on funding opportunities, such as GO-Bio, EXIST or VIP+.
