Ascenion’s oldest shareholding successfully sold

Biomax Informatics AG, a well-established start-up from the Helmholtz Zentrum München, has been acquired by Horizonte Venture Management. The proceeds from the sale of Ascenion’s equity will be distributed as research grants via the LifeScience Foundation.

One of the first pioneers of German bioinformatics, Biomax Informatics AG was launched over 20 years ago. Since then, the company has developed from a supplier of specialist genome annotation software to an integrated provider of solutions for knowledge management in the life sciences. It has established key technologies in semantic search, brain imaging and clinical data integration, with which it supports a constantly growing, international customer base.

Together with its new Austrian investor, the company is set to continue on this successful trajectory. The team and location will be retained in the long term. Martin Wodak, CEO of Horizonte Venture Management, comments: “Since its foundation, Biomax Informatics has built up a very impressive technology and product portfolio in the life-science area, based on artificial intelligence. Together with the staff and management of Biomax Informatics, I look forward to further developing the company, and being able to contribute to increased efficiency and speed of research, as well as to a more targeted therapeutic approach to improved treatment success and patients quality of life.”

Support for start-ups and participation management are among Ascenion’s core competencies.  Proceeds from the sale of company shares will flow via Ascenion’s parent company, the Life-Science Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Research, as research grants for its endowing partner institutes.
