As ‘Best of X’ partner, Ascenion has now nominated a spin-off project and a start-up for the start-up pitch competition in Hamburg on 13 July 2015: Cardior Pharmaceuticals and i3 membrane GmbH. Cardior Pharmaceuticals is a spin-off project from Hannover Medical School, led by Prof. Thomas Thum, one of the world’s most renowned cardiologists and this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Investigator Award by the International Society for Heart Research. The company’s mission is to provide next-generation medicines for the treatment and prevention of heart disease - the number one cause of death in the western world. I3 membrane builds on a breakthrough invention of Prof. Andreas Kolitsch and his colleagues at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf. This was subsequently earmarked for a special commercial application by the experienced entrepreneur and CEO Dr. Stephan Brinke-Seiferth: namely a uniquely elegant and eco-friendly process for the production of high-quality steel membranes with outstanding stability and flexibility. Based on this, the team is set to prevail in the growing market of high-tech filters.
