Early this year we experienced an exceptional event in the German start-up scene, with Cardior’s billion-euro exit. Success stories like these motivate the Hannover Medical School (MHH) and other research institutes to carry on patenting good ideas and supporting inventors, entrepreneurs and their spin-offs – because the institutes participate fairly in the value creation process.
Happily, Ascenion’s portfolio is successfully bucking the trend this year, with around one new start-up launched each month. Our success rate in attracting venture capital and partners is also well above average. This shows that, together, research institutes and their technology transfer partners can achieve a great deal when they provide professional support for their start-ups and align licensing and equity agreements with the demands of the market.
