HepaRegeniX plans to use the proceeds to complete its ongoing Phase Ib trial and to advance the Phase IIa clinical trial for HRX-215, the company’s lead clinical candidate in liver regeneration.
Prof. Dr. med. Lars Zender, the company’s co-founder, just gave the Karl Wilhelm von Kupffer Basic Science State-of-the-Art plenary talk at the 2025 European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Congress in Amsterdam. The plenary presented the discovery of the small molecule, HRX-215, its role in inhibiting the activity of the kinase MKK4, a key regulator of liver regeneration, and the evaluation of HRX-215 to date including Phase 1 clinical trial results validating its favourable safety and pharmacokinetic profile.
HRX-215 is a first-in-class, orally available small molecule inhibitor designed to target Mitogen-Activated Protein (MAP) Kinase 4 (MKK4), a master regulator of liver regeneration. By selectively inhibiting MKK4, HRX-215 enhances the liver’s natural ability to regenerate. Extensive preclinical studies in mice and pigs had already demonstrated that HRX-215 enhances the regeneration of healthy and diseased livers.
HepaRegeniX is backed by experienced life science investors, including Vesalius Biocapital IV, Novo Holdings A/S, Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund (BIVF), Coparion, High-Tech Gründerfonds, Ascenion GmbH and Wellington Partners.
