The latest financing round is led by Vesalius Biocapital IV, with participation of existing investors Novo Holdings, Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund (BIVF) and the High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF).
The company is developing a new regenerative therapeutic concept for the treatment of acute and chronic liver diseases. The inhibitor HRX-215 supports, and can strongly boost, liver regeneration in patients. This is highly relevant for patients with liver metastases or primary liver tumours. Liver regeneration is also of crucial importance in liver transplantation. Large numbers of patients could benefit from this strategy, and it could significantly reduce waiting lists for liver transplant candidates. Promising preclinical data have confirmed the ability of HRX-215 to enhance liver regeneration, and a recent successful Phase I trial has demonstrated safety and tolerability in humans.
The therapeutic concept was discovered by the company’s co-founder Prof. Zender during his time at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig and the Hannover Medical School (MHH), and was protected by respective IP at these institutes. Ascenion GmbH, technology transfer partner of both institutes, has supported the project from the start.
