Ascenion has supported the Helmholtz Zentrum München and iThera Medical GmbH in negotiating a cooperation agreement with ZEISS. The three partners will together develop an innovative microscope to enable scientists to look beneath the skin of living organisms. The technique exploits both the optical and acoustic properties of tissues. There are many possible applications, with a particularly high demand in biomedical research.
With the help of this new approach, it could be possible for the first time to visualize and follow in vivo processes occurring in deeper tissue layers, e.g. various types of progression in cancer development, the uptake and distribution of therapeutic agents, or the reactions of immune cells.
The project, entitled ‘Tech2See’, will receive 3 million EUR of funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) over the next three years.
