After more than a year’s successful cooperation with Ascenion, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) has decided to become a co-founder of the LifeScience Foundation. The HZDR conducts research in the fields of energy, health and matter, gaining new insights that will help to maintain and improve the quality of human life. Cancer research is a particular focus of its research in the life sciences.
The LifeScience Foundation is sole shareholder of Ascenion. Its funds come from donations and, to a greater extent, from Ascenion’s proceeds from technology transfer, which flow almost entirely to the Foundation. From 2001 to 2012 these totalled around EUR 7.4 million, the largest part coming from exit proceeds. The money is made available to the co-founding research institutes for funding research. With the HZDR, the co-founders now comprise eight institutes from the Helmholtz and Leibniz Associations, as well as the Hannover Medical School.
