Founded as recently as December 2013, Trianta Immunotherapies GmbH has already closed a successful agreement with Medigene AG: its acquisition by the listed company was announced on 27 January. This is a significant step for Medigene: it obtains three new platforms for the development of T-cell therapies against cancer, one of which is already in clinical trials. For Prof. Dolores Schendel and her team at the Helmholtz Zentrum München this is further proof that their groundbreaking approaches can be developed further towards application. ‘It is remarkable how far Prof. Schendel has already advanced her technologies in the academic sector,’ commented Dr Christian Stein, CEO of Ascenion. ‘We are particularly delighted that her entire team has been taken on by Medigene, and that she herself has been appointed to the Executive Management Board. This shows how important her knowledge and experience are to the continued success of the project.’
Trianta’s shareholders, who include Ascenion, receive shares in Medigene as a result of the takeover, together with possible future payments as and when projects in Trianta’s portfolio reach predefined milestones.
