In June this year, two experienced professionals joined Ascenion as technology managers. Based in Berlin, they will collaborate closely with the Max Delbrück Centre for Molecular Medicine, Berlin-Buch, and the German Rheumatism Research Center Berlin.
Dr Michael Karle has just returned from Gothenburg, where he worked for eight years with AstraZeneca in the field of drug discovery. During this time, he gained experience in all aspects of drug discovery – from lead generation and optimization through to production in preparation for preclinical studies. The projects addressed a broad range of indications including metabolic, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular diseases. Michael Karle studied chemistry with a focus on organic chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Karlsruhe and received his PhD from the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
Dr Elisabeth von Weizsäcker is a molecular biologist by training. Following her PhD thesis, she entered the field of corporate consulting and, some years later, founded the Metropolitan Consulting Group GmbH, together with a colleague. She successfully managed and developed her consultancy before finally selling it. During this time, she counselled several biotech and medtech start-ups and gained broad consulting experience in the public sector. Elisabeth von Weizsäcker studied biology at the University of Freiburg and at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, USA. She received her PhD from the University of Cologne, Department of Developmental Biology.
