In early December, technology transfer professionals from all over Germany met at Ascenion for a two-day workshop. The participants were predominantly from Ascenion’s partner institutes in the Helmholtz and Leibniz Associations and from the Hannover Medical School. An intense working atmosphere quickly developed during the varied programme, including many candid discussions on relevant topics such as dealing with conflicts of interest, insolvency in start-ups or the implications of the Myriad judgement for technology transfer worldwide. Each topic was introduced by an internal or external expert. In addition to practical aspects of everyday technology transfer, current trends were also considered, for example Horizon 2020 and the Unitary European Patent. The participants are already looking forward to the next workshop planned for the end of 2014.
