Awards for four of Ascenion's portfolio companies

Ascenion supports spin-offs from their partner institutes on their long-term growth trajectory. Recently, four of our portfolio companies have received different awards and prizes – sincere congratulations!


Captain T Cell takes second place in the Startup Spotlight Session at BIO-Europe 2023

With its pitch, the company was able to secure second place out of more than 70 applicants, with prize money of EUR 2,000. The Startup Spotlight Session at BIO-Europe offers start-ups the opportunity to make contact with financially strong investors and other important decision-makers in the biotech sector in order to advance their company. The award is sponsored by Bayer.

Captain T Cell develops an innovative approach to cancer immunotherapy. The aim is to bring a new generation of highly efficient, cancer-specific TCR-T cell therapies to clinical application. With the help of these TCR receptors, T cells, the body's most potent immune cells, can find and specifically destroy cancer cells in the patient. The company is a spin-off of the Max Delbrück Center.


POROUS receives the Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Award 2023

POROUS, headquartered in Potsdam, received the award for its innovative and outstanding entrepreneurial work, with prize money of EUR 15,000. The federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg recognize up to five companies every year with the Innovation Award.

POROUS has developed an innovative ultrasound procedure to reliably quantify microstructural tissue changes in the cortical bone. Its purpose is to enable the early detection of osteoporosis with an unprecedented accurate, cost-effective and X-ray-free ultrasound diagnosis of fracture risk. The company is a spin-off of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.


TimeTeller wins Gründungspreis+, Health Innovation Award 2023 and Rising Star Award at the Tech Awards Gala 2023

TimeTeller is one of this year's six winners of the start-up award Gründungspreis+ of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, each endowed with EUR 32,000. An expert jury selected the most promising start-up ideas from a total of 220 applications. The Start-up Competition for Digital Innovations is aimed at founders-to-be and young start-ups with innovative business ideas in the ICT environment.

In the final round of the Health Innovation Award 2023, TimeTeller was able to assert itself among six start-ups that have developed creative solutions for patient empowerment. The award includes extensive support from the Health Innovation Port (HIP) incubator and its exclusive partner network.

On December 16, the Hamburg-based company also won the Rising Star Award at the Tech Awards Gala 2023.

TimeTeller has been developing a saliva test with a digital component that can be used to determine the optimal time for chemotherapy. The company is a spin-off of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and was supported by the BIH Digital Health Accelerator Program (DHA) until its foundation.


Research award on Patient Safety for study on product x-c-bleeding

The research group from the DHZC (Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité) led by Dr Luise Röhrich received the Research Award on Patient Safety from DIVI and Philips for their validation study following cardiac and thoracic surgery to prevent post-operative bleeding using the product x-c-bleeding. It is endowed with EUR 10,000 and was awarded during the DIVI (German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine) congress in Hamburg.

The AI-based software solution x-c-bleeding determines the risk of possible post-operative bleeding and is developed by x-cardiac, a spin-off of the DHZB, the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and was supported by the BIH Digital Health Accelerator Program (DHA) until its foundation.
